With our cousins in Newton Abbot.

We've have had a few easier days staying with my cousin Wendy and her son Matt and doing  a few trips in the local area. We've been to Totnes, Buckfast Abbey and Ashburton. My other cousin Howard came with us yesterday we also went down Dartmouth then to Slapton Sands where the Yanks did the training for the D-Day landings. At one stage German E-boats (torpedo boats) attacked some unprotected transports and over 700 US soldiers were drowned. The event was hushed up and didn't come out until after the war.

 Beautiful old building in Dartmouth.
 Dartmouth Harbour
Oldest pub in Dartmouth, from the 1400's.
A Sherman swimming tank that sank off the beach in 1944, recovered in the 1980's.

My grandfathers dress tunic from WW1. East Lancashire Regiment.
Not sure what this boat is, it looks French but came within 50 metres of the beach.

Wendy Howard and me, on the River Dart.

Weather is looking a lot clearer today, the last couple of days have been very grey, today we have blue skies but it is still fairly cold.
